Walaa, Contracts & Project Management Director at Iskraemeco from Egypt, points out the urgency of the situation and highlights the unique opportunity we have to work together to tackle global social and environmental challenges. “We all have to do our part it and is time to act. We need to take collective and transformative actions on a global scale to protect and preserve our planet, not just on World Earth Day, but every day.” Walaa encourages companies and individuals to take concrete steps toward sustainability, such as improving the energy efficiency of buildings with solar energy, promoting recycling, encouraging telecommuting and sustainable mobility, and promoting green products and services.
At Iskraemeco, we share commitment to protecting the environment and have taken significant steps towards sustainability. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and promote the use of recycled materials. Since 2013, we have reduced our overall carbon footprint by 70 percent. In 2022, we reduced our carbon footprint by 4percent, our electricity consumption by 12 percent, and our heating consumption by 25 percent compared to the previous year. We are also increasing our demands for the use of recycled material in our components each year. Currently, 10 percent of our components are made from recycled metal and 10 percent are made from post-industrial recycled plastic. We are holding ourselves, our employees, our supply chain, our partners and the industry accountable to make progress toward a greener and more sustainable future.
As a company, we take our responsibility to protect our planet very seriously. We understand that climate change and other environmental issues are among the greatest challenges facing the world today, and we believe that every business and individual has a duty to do their part to mitigate them. By taking care of our employees, we inspire them to invest in our common goals.
We spoke with some of our colleagues to learn more about their approach to achieving our common goal of protecting the planet. Vladimir, the Head of Data2050 in Slovenia, recognizes that taking care of the environment is a collective responsibility, and he is committed to do his part. With consciously minimizing carbon footprint he is using environmentally friendly modes of transportation such as biking or walking whenever possible. While traveling outside the city renting an electric car to reduce the impact on the environment is one of the first thoughts. Changes at home are of great importance to reduce energy consumption, as well as maintaining a more sustainable lifestyle. While he is aware that there is always more to be done, Vladimir strives to becoming carbon neutral and leading by example to inspire others to join him in protecting the planet.
Ankita, Executive Assistant in India, emphasizes the importance of celebrating Earth Day in India to raise awareness about climate change and promote innovative solutions to address environmental challenges. She is passionate about planting trees and reducing pollution. In India, planting terrace gardens is a popular practice that not only provides fresh air but also protects against the sun’s harsh rays. Ankita suggests the use of solar panels to harness the abundant solar energy available in India, and the introduction of smart water and electricity meters to reduce waste and optimize consumption. Adopting smart technologies and sustainable practices can help ensure a cleaner and healthier planet for future generations.
Smilja, Head of Strategic Marketing from Slovenia, believes that contributing to a sustainable future requires both individual and collective efforts. Small actions can add up to make a big difference in creating a more sustainable future for our planet. By making conscious choices and adopting sustainable practices in our daily lives, everyone can contribute to a better and greener world for ourselves and future generations. Smilja is personally committed to making sustainable choices in her daily life, such as choosing locally grown, organic, and sustainably produced foods, avoiding water waste by turning off the faucet when brushing her teeth or washing dishes, using electric vehicles, choosing products with eco-friendly certifications, and more. She firmly believes that every little action we take towards a more sustainable future matters, and that we all have a responsibility to protect our planet and ensure a better future for ourselves and future generations.
Luciano, Business Development and Solution Manager from Argentina: “Earth Day is a special day to celebrate our beautiful planet and raise awareness about the importance of protecting it and preserving it for future generations. It is important to reduce our environmental footprint, reuse and recycle, and conserve energy, water and other valuable resources.” Luciano also advocates for sustainable practices such as using renewable energy, supporting local agriculture, and protecting endangered species. He believes that fostering a culture of respect and appreciation for nature is crucial and encourages others to connect with nature and understand the value of biodiversity.
