Past week at the Egypt International Exhibition Center (EIEC) in Cairo, Ahmad highlighted the role of digital infrastructure in building more responsive utility networks. His presentation, “Digital Infrastructure and Grid Intelligence: Building a Smarter Utility Grid”, focused on connecting field data, communications, systems and operations within an integrated environment.
Utilities collect large volumes of meter readings, alarms and events. Turning these inputs into meaningful insights requires more than data collection: it requires connections between the systems that gather information and the teams that use it to make decisions.
Grid Intelligence supports this process by helping utilities understand grid data and translate it into timely, targeted operational action:
Sense, Connect, Understand, Act.
Ahmed outlined four practical steps that connect data collection with operational decisions:
- Sense: Collect data from meters and field infrastructure.
- Connect: Bring data, communications and systems together.
- Understand: Transform readings, alarms and events into meaningful insights.
- Act: Use those insights to guide operational decisions and targeted responses.
This approach provides a structured path from individual data points to a clearer understanding of the network and the actions it requires.
A central message of the presentation was the importance of connecting existing technology investments. Building a more responsive grid means enabling infrastructure, data and systems to work together as part of an intelligent operational environment.
For Iskraemeco, this reflects the role of Grid Intelligence: connecting field infrastructure with operational understanding so utilities can move from collecting data to making informed decisions.
