According to the World Economic Forum, the world produces more than 450 million tons of plastic each year, with around 350 million tons becoming waste. Approximately 19 million tons of plastic end up in the environment annually – 13 million tons on land and 6 million tons in rivers and coastal areas. Microplastics also accumulate in soil, mainly due to the use of plastic in agriculture and wastewater discharge.
At Iskraemeco, we are fully aware of the importance of reducing our environmental impact. In the past, we have already tested the use of recycled plastic for certain components of our products and successfully confirmed its suitability. While there was limited interest in such materials at the time, we are now witnessing a significant shift – sustainable solutions and the integration of eco-design principles in products are increasingly expected by our partners.
We see this as a positive signal that environmental awareness is growing across the value chain – and it further motivates us to continue developing sustainable solutions. One of the key milestones on this journey was achieved in 2024, when we reached our long-standing goal and became a zero-waste on landfills company.
Reducing plastic waste is not only a global challenge, but also an opportunity for us as a company to contribute to a better future. World Environment Day is a chance to reflect on the progress we have made and consider how we can continue to improve our environmental practices and innovate our products in line with global trends. Let’s join the movement – because only together can we create a healthier future.
