Building a smarter energy ecosystem
D4E’s mission is to address the challenges of digitalization in energy by creating technical solutions and governance models that enable seamless, secure, and standardized energy data sharing. D4E plays a pivotal role in fostering innovation, improving energy flexibility, and aligning stakeholders across Europe to build a more sustainable and efficient energy ecosystem.
Key focus lies in the flexibility
Klemen Belec is actively involved in one of the three defined use cases, named ‘Flexibility services for energy markets and grids’, which presents some of the most demanding challenges in energy data exchange. Flexibility services are essential for balancing energy supply and demand, enhancing grid efficiency, and enabling the integration of renewable energy sources.
The D4E group is addressing two main areas under this use case:
Flexibility registers data harmonization
- Developing a European data format, ontology, and metadata structure for flexibility registers.
- Exploring requirements for a unified access point for flexibility registers.
Near real-time data exchange
- Standardizing data exchange processes for flexibility services, including intraday bidding, real-time activation, and flexibility measurement.
- Assessing and recommending common APIs and interoperability standards.
Through active participation in D4E, significant strides are being made in advancing flexibility registers and near real-time data exchanges, contributing to the development of a robust energy data ecosystem. These efforts underscore the importance of innovation and proactive solutions in addressing global energy challenges. By fostering collaboration among industry leaders and policymakers, D4E is driving sustainable energy practices across Europe, paving the way for smarter, more resilient, flexible, and consumer-centric energy systems.
