As part of this initiative, we welcomed two high school students to our company in the past week, who had the unique opportunity to gain an insight into the work of engineers through job shadowing. We introduced the students to the company’s operations, explained the production process to them and gave them the opportunity to get to know different jobs in the Technology Design Center (TDC).
The students were enthusiastic about the experience and expressed great interest in engineering careers. We are confident that this job shadowing will help them make a decision about their future and that they may even become the next generation of engineers who will help shape the future of Slovenia.
Iskraemeco is actively involved in the local community and encourages young talent by participating in various projects. We believe that investing in young people is crucial for the long-term success of our company and society as a whole. Therefore, we encourage all young people who are interested in engineering, technology or science to join us and get to know the work of engineers in practice. We are looking for creative, innovative and curious people who want to help shape the future.

Student’s feedback from the visit to Iskraemeco
General impression from job shadowing
Job shadowing at Iskraemeco was very positive. We gained insight into the world of employees and practical experience outside of school, which proved to be extremely beneficial. The job shadowing provided a very detailed view of the company’s operations, as we learned a lot of new things; not only about the company in general but also about the connections between different departments, as we were introduced to more than one area.
Which tasks or activities did you find most interesting?
The most interesting tasks were those related to development and innovation. Particularly noteworthy was the testing laboratory, where they test electric meters in various ways and under different circumstances to ensure their reliability for sale.
Which tasks or activities did you find least interesting?
Among the least interesting activities was the large amount of information, which was quite overwhelming for a single visit. Although all the activities were interesting and we learned a lot of new things everywhere, we were least interested in the company management department and the more logistical tasks.
What are three things you learned during the job shadowing?
We learned that electric meters are very complex products, that the company employs a large number of people, and that extensive organization is required. Additionally, we discovered how they test the meters for resistance to electromagnetic interference to ensure accurate measurements. We also learned that the company has at least three factories prepared for each component to immediately start production if there is an issue with the primary one. Finally, we found out that they often use 3D printers for testing new and different product designs, as plastic is cheaper and faster to use than ordering specific parts in production.
Why would you recommend job shadowing to other students?
I would recommend job shadowing because it is a rare opportunity that provides a very valuable experience. It offers a unique insight into a company that you wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else.
Did job shadowing help you with your future study choices, or had you already decided on your study path?
We already knew what we wanted to study before the job shadowing, but it provided us with additional insight and reinforced our decision.
If you had to choose again, would you choose the same company?
Yes.
