The effective use of data and knowledge that companies and their professionals need in order to analyze them and make decisions, comes from industry-specific competencies that ensure a better future.
The Office of Metrology of the Republic of Slovenia and the Faculty of Organizational Sciences Kranj hosted the event on March 23, 2023, “Interdisciplinarnost meroslovca šteje” (The interdisciplinarity of metrologists counts) as part of the 42nd International Conference on the Development of Organizational Sciences. Aleš Potočnik, Director of the Technology Design Center at Iskraemeco, was present at the conference and spoke about the importance of establishing a data-driven decision-making process as a prerequisite for the economic efficiency of an organization.
In the round table discussion on data and decision making, Aleš discussed the question how to use one’s intuition and experience versus when to rely on data and facts. He focused on developing a data-driven culture within an organization. He also discussed the talents a meteorologist must possess in order to provide high quality data and the skills a decision maker must possess to make decisions quickly and effectively.
The event emphasized the value of knowledge and skills in a national and international environment for better and broader development of people, organizations, and society. We must adapt the education system to meet these demands if we are to ensure an effective economy and society as a whole. It is widely recognized that it is not easy to succeed and that it is the people with a holistic approach, adequate competence and knowledge of the challenges of today’s world who look for opportunities rather than problems to achieve goals efficiently.
