Every year on March 5, we celebrate World Energy Efficiency Day, a day that reminds us of the importance of using resources responsibly. At Iskraemeco, we are aware that sustainable development is not a one-off event, but an ongoing commitment. That’s why we are constantly looking for innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint and increase energy efficiency. This year, we are sharing our journey with sustainable activities that show our efforts are focused on real and measurable change.
Energy efficiency in practice
In 2024, Iskraemeco achieved remarkable results in energy efficiency. We reduced electricity consumption by 23%, heat consumption by 17% and compressed air consumption by 21%. These figures are not only the result of our efforts but also proof that we can make significant progress with the right measures and technologies.
Our path to sustainability does not end with the results we have achieved. We are committed to continuous improvement and have set ourselves ambitious targets for 2025: a 10% reduction in electricity consumption and a 5% reduction in heat consumption. We will review and adjust these targets every year, because we know that sustainable development is a dynamic process.
How will we achieve this? With a comprehensive approach that includes the following:
- Optimizing production processes: We monitor the energy consumption of production lines using sensors and quickly identify potential losses.
- Investing in energy-efficient equipment: We replace old equipment with new, energy- and material-efficient equipment.
- Switching to green energy: Our own solar power plant, which has been in operation since December 2023, covers around 25% of our electricity consumption, with a further 1% coming from combined heat and power generation. We are planning to install another solar power plant in 2025, which will cover a further 10% of our consumption. We also actively purchase green energy from the grid as part of our energy mix. We recognize that it is crucial to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and are therefore striving to increase the proportion of renewable energy in our energy mix.
- Energy-efficient infrastructure: We have equipped all buildings with LED lighting, optimized the heating and cooling systems and carried out energy-efficient building renovations. In 2025, we plan to install our own compressor station and gas heating system, which is expected to reduce gas consumption by 10%. Additionally, we are implementing automation of all climate control systems, ensuring optimal microclimatic conditions and precise monitoring of flows and consequently, energy consumption. By automating climate control systems and using cogeneration, we will reduce energy consumption by up to 15%.
- Employee awareness: Our employees are the key to achieving our sustainability goals. We therefore run regular programs to raise awareness of energy efficiency among employees in production and administration.
