The first installations of Iskraemeco’s smart meters began in 2012 with the delivery of 500,000 DSMR2.2 smart meters. In December 2018, the millionth Iskraemeco smart meter was delivered to four utilities involved in the SMR5 project. The project is even more interesting because it is based on applying a sustainability approach to metering.
Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) set out detailed plans for transforming its current infrastructure into a smart grid environment in 2016. The first smart meter roll-out, encompassing 40,000 metering points, will officially start at the end of December. G3-PLC certification for the AM550 smart meter platform was awarded to Iskraemeco end of February by an independant testing facility. G3-PLC is a mature PLC technology based on up-to-date modulation techniques and higher layer protocols such as IPv6 and 6LoWPAN.
